Jim Anderson came out on top in the Alba Rosa circuit race held at the Brownlee centre (see pics, photo credits, Smith Photography). With strong teams from PMRR and Alba all early breakaway attempts were neutralised, however after numerous attacks Jim placed himself in the successful break, and he attacked his opponents with half a lap to go to take a solo victory with seconds to spare.
In the previous week’s Prologue RT race, Ilkley’s top performer was ageing Neil Rollins, 55, who produced a fine 6th place, followed by 8th - Michael Strange, 12th - Arthur Wilson and 25th - Russell Kennedy
In time trialling, David Leckenby raced to an excellent 9th place with 55mins07secs in the Yorkshire RC 25mile event near Thirsk. In the same event Andrew Lambe achieved a bucket list ambition by beating the 25mph average speed barrier for the first time with 59:48, a great reward for the hard work and training he has put in during 2019.
The last evening time trial of Ilkley CC’s home promotions was held on the notoriously tough local course and visiting riders took most of the top places...1st Cam Blake, Prologue RT 25m25s ; 2nd Matt Asquith, Team Sportslab 25:26 ; 3rd Andy Johnstone, Airedale Olympic 25:44 ; 4th Ged Millward , ICC 28:22 ; 5th Sarah Lewthwaite, Team Sportslab 28:47 ; 6th Nina Benson, ICC 30:02 ; 7th Michael Strange, ICC 30:41 ; 8th Mike Blake, ICC 33:33
Suddenly summer is drawing to an end and Event 1 of the Yorkshire Cyclo Cross Winter Points Series was held at Bishop Burton College, Beverley, with a large entry and tough competition. In the youth events ICC were represented by Zac Wilson in the U12s and Seb Cliffe in the U16s. John Wood was 25th in the V50 +W category.
In the main event, Ian Cliffe , recovered from his broken leg which happened early in this year’s summer series, led the way home for Ilkley CC in 20th place, followed by 25th Arthur Wilson ; 37th Dave Wilby ; 41st Michael Strange. Interestingly, the results of this event feature heavily lots of riders with ICC connections or history, from riders who have moved on to race for other teams, to riders who retain membership of ICC but represent other teams, through to riders who enjoy their training with Ilkley Cycling Club.
This Sunday, 15th Spetember, is a major date in the cyclo cross season as it is the world famous Three Peaks Cyclo Cross, where 16 members of ICC will be competing, no doubt followed by a keen band of supporters on the day.
